If we want a trendy mise en place, taking care of the dishes is essential. It is not just a matter of following the rules of etiquette for combinations and placements, but above all of managing the care of each material and object in a practical way, taking care to choose the right products for cleaning and polishing.
The protagonist of a good table is the serving tray: these models, usually made of steel or ceramic, can be positioned centrally to serve a shared dish. They lend themselves perfectly to platters of cold cuts and cheeses, for a dessert such as tea biscuits or a pre-sliced cake or even for a delicious second course of meat or fish with baked vegetables. But how to take care of it? It all depends on the material but also on the temperatures and equipment we have at our disposal.
Let’s start with some general advice:
– Avoid the use of harsh chemicals. Solutions such as bleach can irreparably damage the surface; it is better to prefer specific and gentler detergents.
– Always use coasters and napkins to protect the surface from scratches and stains, especially when used to serve food and drinks.
– Take care in the way you store them. When not in use, store them in a dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and damage.
Ceramic trays
Ceramic trays are appreciated for their style, refinement and elegance; To keep them in optimal condition, it is essential to clean them gently. We recommend the use of a soft sponge and neutral soap, avoiding abrasive brushes that could scratch them. After washing, dry them with a soft cloth to prevent streaks and water stains. Do not expose them to temperature changes, as this may cause cracks or breakage.
Wooden trays
Wooden variants add a touch of natural warmth to any room: for their care, it is important never to immerse them completely in water, as humidity can deform them or cause the appearance of mold; Instead, clean them with a damp cloth and a mild detergent, drying them immediately afterwards with a towel. To maintain the beauty of the material, periodically apply a specific oil, which will help preserve its finish and protect it from drying out.
Stoneware trays
Stoneware, although robust and heat-resistant, requires gentle cleaning, just like ceramic. Wash them with hot water, mild soap and a soft sponge but above all limit (or even better avoid!) the use of abrasive products that could ruin them.
Steel trays
Steel models are often chosen for their durability and modern yet classic look. To sanitize them, simply use a stainless steel detergent, taking care not to scratch it with aggressive sponges: this is why we suggest the use of a soft cloth for this type of operation. Remember that, even in this case, immediate drying can make a difference, avoiding the formation of limescale.
Taking care of luxury trays, as well as any other decorative element of the mise en place, requires attention and a good dose of dedication, but with the right precautions and our suggestions you can enjoy their beauty for years. In addition to thorough cleaning, following the advice listed above, take care to dry them before storing them and keep them in a dry place.
