In the context of the Orgatec 2024 fair, one of the most important European events for the design of work and shared spaces, the German brand Gumpo presented two interesting innovations in the field of upholstered seating: yay and ohh. Two products that are profoundly different in character and approach, but designed to dialogue and coexist in harmony in any environment, from the office to the home, passing through hotels and restaurants.
Gumpo, known for its expertise in woodworking and panels, opens up here to a new language, once again relying on the creative direction of the Relvãokellermann studio, which has been guiding the brand’s visual and design identity since 2017. The new seats express a softer and more articulated vision of contemporary space: an invitation to combine different characters while maintaining coherence, comfort and production quality.
Yay: bold character and compact
shape Yay is a seat that does not go unnoticed. Compact in size, but with a strong visual impact, it stands out for its fully upholstered structure, including the legs, which makes it a unique, soft and continuous volume. The detail that catches the eye is the unusual backrest, initially unsettling, but surprisingly comfortable thanks to the intelligent padding. Despite its sculptural character, Yay easily adapts to different contexts and goes well with other furnishings.
Made with a steel structure and fabrics made from recycled plastic materials, yay demonstrates attention to sustainability without sacrificing a strong style component. It is designed for dynamic and creative environments, where the personality of the furniture contributes to the identity of the space.
Ohh: discretion and flexibility
Ohh, on the contrary, is proposed as a discreet and versatile family of seats, with contained lines and functional details. Based on an upholstered wooden shell, available in various heights and versions – from traditional seats to modular benches to stools – oh lends itself to multiple configurations. It can be used individually or in groups, with tailor-made solutions also designed for the integration of electrical sockets or storage spaces.
Ohh’s strength lies in its ability to blend in and respond to practical needs, while maintaining a consistent and refined aesthetic. Its variants on a swivel or panel base make it suitable for formal and informal contexts, without ever stealing the show.
A dialogue between characters
Yay and ohh are thought of as two opposite but complementary personalities. The first expresses inspiration and presence, the second discretion and ductility. Together, they represent a new way of thinking about contract furniture and the contemporary home, where the needs of comfort, flexibility and sustainability come together in coherent and well-designed solutions.
