Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape: the open luxury that is redefining hospitality in Bali

Awarded as the 2nd best resort in Indonesia and among the 15 best in the world, Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape, conquers with a revolutionary idea of design and hospitality: without walls, without doors, in perfect harmony with nature

In the green hills of Ubud, in the most authentic heart of Bali, stands a place that has redefined the meaning of luxury and connection with the environment. Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape, is not just a resort: it is an immersive experience, a refuge that erases the boundaries between inside and outside to restore a direct relationship with tropical nature.
The recognition has also arrived at an international level. On October 7, 2025, Condé Nast Traveler readers voted Buahan as the 2nd best resort in Indonesia and 13th in the world at the Readers’ Choice Awards. Just a few days later, the Michelin Hotels Guide awarded him two Michelin Keys, the highest accolade for the hotel industry, praising its exceptional hospitality and authentic character.
At the heart of its identity is the revolutionary “No Walls, No Doors” concept: sixteen fully open Pool Balés (private villas with swimming pool), where the design blends in with the surrounding vegetation and landscape. Each space is a dialogue between architecture and nature, with local materials, warm woods and outdoor furniture details that combine comfort and lightness. Here, outdoor design is not only decorative, but functional to the philosophy of the place: to encourage a more conscious life in harmony with the landscape.

The common areas also follow the same logic. The Open Kitchen – a large convivial open-air area – and the Toja Spa are conceived as fluid spaces, in which the perception of inside and outside is confused. The furnishings, essential and natural, integrate with local materials and daylight, defining a new paradigm of outdoor living: intimate, sustainable, deeply linked to the sensory experience.
Sustainability is the beating heart of the project. Buahan collaborates with the local community through the Dukuh Asri Agricultural Program, which provides organic produce to the resort’s kitchen. Toja Spa’s wellness practices use natural ingredients and traditional techniques, promoting responsible and regenerative luxury.
On an island dotted with luxury resorts, Buahan stands out for its bold vision: a concept of hospitality in which architecture disappears and the landscape becomes an integral part of the experience. It is a design model that looks to the future – not only for the beauty of the spaces, but for its ability to bring together comfort, nature and outdoor design in a single, unforgettable harmony.
