The project presented to Design Week by the duo Thanos Zakopoulos and Katie Meneghini, from the CTRLZAK Art studio establisehd in 2009, is thus named. The designers have developed a project that bridges design to other disciplines and seeks to produce objects not only destined for production, but also to ignite discussion and questioning in the viewers.
TRANSUBSTANTIA PAGANUS, presented at Foodmade 2013, is made of a series of plates, glasses, jugs and containers based on the images from The Last Supper, trying to reproduce the same objects that were on Jesus Christ and The Apostoles’s table. The table is filled with objects entirely made of holy bread, which has been appropriately treated, to emphasize the religious tone of the concept, and leads to a discussion on the value of religion in modern society and stimulate a debate about Western consumerism.
A true feast, which is not only stimulating for its asthetics, but also for the symbolism of the objects that mirror the current instbaility and spiritual, religious, and economonical crisis making them an allegory for fragility and emptyiness in man’s ideology. Imperfect and rudimentary objects, just as the designers wished, that not only belogn to the world of Food Design, but trascend between art, theater, fashion, religion, and cooking to create a design that allows the viewer to focus on their preferred intepretation.
