In the world of contemporary textile design, few collaborations resonate as strongly as the one between Kvadrat and renowned designer Raf Simons. After more than a decade of shared work, the duo announced the launch of Kvadrat/Raf Simons Kids, a collection designed to stimulate children’s imagination through functional and creative accessories, along with the presentation of a new generation of upholstery fabrics.
The Kvadrat/Raf Simons Kids project was born as a natural extension of the broader Shaker System, the modular system of accessories and complements designed by Simons to improve everyday domestic life with high-quality design. With this version dedicated to children, the collection adopts a more playful and creative dimension while maintaining a rigorous attention to functionality and the formal language that has distinguished the collaboration from the beginning.
The range dedicated to children includes iconic and original objects, designed to integrate with the home environment and stimulate curiosity: from the ingenious Vidar 4 storage bag – capable of transforming into a play or organization space – to the soft Asator velvet teddy bear made in collaboration with the historic Margarete Steiff plush company. There are also practical accessories such as cotton terry hooded towels with jacquard logo and a matching cotton bucket hat , ideal for accompanying daily routines with a touch of style.
At the center of the launch is also Saxion, a new generation bouclé fabric destined to become an icon of the collection. Manufactured with a combination of worsted wool and polyester yarn, Saxion combines the resistance required for upholstery with a soft, warm and natural finish, inspired by vintage Japanese color palettes that soften the color without losing its visual impact.
Together with Saxion, the new generation of fabrics includes Ria 2, a pointillism-inspired wool viscose that plays with color perception through a dotted and dynamic weave. The construction of Ria 2 creates intriguing visual effects depending on the viewing distance, introducing color contrasts and deep textures into textile surfaces.
These launches underline Kvadrat and Raf Simons’ ongoing commitment to redefining the boundaries of textile design, combining aesthetics, innovation and functional performance. The collaboration, which began in 2014, has already led to the creation of collections characterized by a rich use of color and texture, confirming Simons’ vision of “designing things that improve everyday life” and that are loved for their quality and durability.
The new fabrics and Kids range will be available from October 9, 2025 on kvadratrafsimons.com and at select international stores including Barney’s New York Japan, Bon Maison Taipei, The Broken Arm Paris, The Hyundai Seoul and Overflow Beijing.
