A two year work for a 830 square meter house: that’s Limantos, an architecture project by Fernanda Marques Arquitetos Associados studio located in San Paolo, Brazil. Originally, the building area was a steep hillside in flower that now frames a modern “natural” house that looks simple even though is the result of a quite complicated work.
The core elements of the project are geometric forms, glass as the leading material and an accurate integration within the landscape. «Finding a compromise amid transparency and privacy was a great challenge », says the architect. «We needed to build the house by respecting the pre-existing greenery as well as managing the steepness in the best way ».
The continuum between inside and outside is given by the massive use of glass, that makes the sunlight come inside and offers a complete view on the landscape. Inside, the space is organized around specific elements such as the small pool at the entrance, the yellow wall that crosses the entire building or the winding staircase that leads upstairs. The upper floor is dedicated to relax and entertainment, with a multimedia room, a gym and lounge areas like the terrace and the fireplace.
The ground floor hosts the rest of the rooms: three en-suite rooms, walk-in closets, dining room (which faces the swimming pool and the garden on the outside), recreation room. Enclosed in glass panels, the house seems an actual piece of the environment, however it still feels cozy and warm thanks to subtle lighting and wood finishings. «After all – says Marques – a house must feel like home».
