Moving house in 5 steps: how to do it?

Some tips on how to best organize yourself so as not to panic

If you are about to move house, it is very easy to panic. In fact, it is a big change and you can find yourself struggling with many things to manage, and almost all at the same time. So, the first thing to do is to try to organize yourself as best you can.
Here are some tips and tricks that can be useful to manage the move without too much stress.

Plan and organize your move
The most important thing to do, even before contacting the company that deals with removals, is to clean the house and identify all the objects you want to keep and those that, on the other hand, can be discarded, given away or thrown away. Over the years, in fact, we tend to accumulate many things, but not all of them are actually useful.
It is therefore necessary to equip yourself with many cardboard boxes and divide things by giving them a classification. This solution is also important for better organizing objects when they need to be placed in the new home.
Furniture, decorations and fragile objects should be put aside and everything must be packaged adequately to avoid damage. It is also better to take measurements of doors and passage points before contacting the moving company to make sure that you can proceed without the need, for example, to rent lifting platforms.
Making a checklist helps, especially so as not to arrive unprepared on the day of the move. If the moving company does not follow the dismantling of the furniture, you should plan this in advance.

Cancelling utilities and subscriptions
If you are about to leave home, then, it is important to notify the operators of electricity, water, gas and any contracts for Internet connection well in advance. In fact, the termination of contracts usually takes some time and, if done in time, you will not find yourself having to pay utilities that will no longer be used.
Very often, especially if the transfer takes place in locations within the national territory, it will be possible to keep the contract with the same operator, modifying only the data of the new supply.

Buying furniture for your new home
While a lot of furniture and furnishings can be reused, a new home will definitely need additional furniture and accessories. Especially if, for example, it is a matter of more complex choices, such as that of a new kitchen with various appliances, it is better to start early.
At least a couple of months in advance, therefore, it is good to evaluate different solutions, identify suitable furniture and schedule its delivery. Especially if it comes to tailor-made solutions, for example, these may take some time.

What to do on the day of the move
On the day of the move, it is best to cover the floors of the old house to avoid damage, take a picture of the meter reading and check that everything has actually been taken. It seems obvious, but at the last moment something can escape.

What to do when you arrive at your new home
Once you arrive at your destination, it’s a good idea to check the checklist to make sure that’s really it. You can proceed to connect the appliances, clean all the rooms and finally treat yourself to a relaxing shower.
