Tradition and modernity flow in Mario DAquino’s veins. Two opposite pushes that deeply inspire the designer born in Gallipoli, who constantly design and create new retro-like products with a much contemporary appeal. Stuoia is inspired by the fabric that Apulian women used to weave by hand; a design console-table inspired by the past world.
Tradition and modernity flow in Mario D’Aquino‘s veins. Two opposite pushes that deeply inspire the designer born in Gallipoli, who constantly design and create new retro-like products with a much contemporary appeal. Stuoia is inspired by the fabric that Apulian women used to weave by hand; a design console-table inspired by the past world.
It looks like a tablecloth: the top is smooth, the corners soft, the legs look like fringes that delicately touch the ground. The effect is delicate yet bold, because Stuoia looks like a fluctuating tablecloth, yet it is a console-table made out of aluminum or steel, upholstered in papier-mâché or micro concrete.
«It’s been a challenge on the static side», says the designer. «But I managed to fulfill it through a very thin press-formed cnc cut aluminum framework, upholstered in papier-mâché or micro concrete, to give a light elegant effect as well as the best stability».
