The House on the Waterfall: a surprising architectural work

The best American architectural work of all time according to the American Institute of Architects

Fallingwater is a house located in Pennsylvania, this is because the villa is designed and built on the Bear Run stream near Mill Run.
In 1991 the American Institute of Architects declared Fallingwater as “the best American architectural work of all time”.

The architect who designed this house (Frank Lloyd Wright) promotes the creation of a system of balance between the built environment and the natural environment, through the integration of the various artificial elements (buildings, furnishings, etc.), with the natural ones of the surrounding environment. To build Fallingwater, Wright not only used local materials (such as stone or wood) but also modern expressive technology that blends very well with the surrounding environment. The native stone then blends with the beige reinforced concrete structures, which blend perfectly. The structure of the villa is characterized by a series of cantilevered and overlapping terrace floors, which recall the stratification of the rocks of the waterfall and which protrude above it creating an exceptional scenic effect. Although such a thing seems surreal to us, so much so that we think it is one of the online games that allow you to build imaginary buildings, Fallingwater was designed in 1936, to be finished in 1939. It was used as a holiday home by the Kaufmann family (i.e. the owners of the villa) until the 50s, currently the building is a museum that attracts thousands of visitors every year.

On the lower floor there is the large living room open to the south and flanked by two terraces, complete with a fireplace, while on its east corner there is the entrance to which follows the staircase that leads to the upper floors. The living area occupies the north side of the building, and from the living room a staircase leads down to the base of the building, where shaped concrete supports and other load-bearing elements, formed by blocks of local stone, emerge from the water of the waterfall.
