It is a refined transformation of a European period apartment, a symbol of an increasingly widespread trend: reinterpreting historic homes with a contemporary aesthetic, respectful of the cultural and architectural roots of the place.
These apartments – spread across Paris, Milan and Barcelona – are often characterized by elements such as high ceilings, parquet floors, ornamental moldings and deep windows. However, the internal distribution reflects ways of living in the past: separate rooms, thick walls, complex circulations. ARRCC does not seek to erase these elements, but to enhance them through light, materials and the dialogue between ancient and modern.
The project focuses on natural light, spatial flexibility and craftsmanship. The furnishings are positioned so as not to obstruct the views, while integrated lighting systems and equipped walls extend the perspectives, creating visual depth even in the tightest spaces. The ceilings are kept simple, to enhance the materials chosen for the floors: marble, carpets with a stratified texture and natural surfaces that visually anchor each room.
A central role is entrusted to the theme of manual skills and tailor-made production. In an era dominated by mass production, ARRCC brings a polished, tactile and personal aesthetic to its projects, inspired by South Africa's artistic roots. The pieces chosen or designed for the interior are distinguished by authentic materials and handcrafted details, able to express identity and warmth.
The design approach is profoundly human: each intervention is the result of careful listening to the client's needs. Through personalized meetings and questionnaires, the studio builds a narrative that takes into account the ways of life, emotional needs and habits of those who will inhabit the space.
Even outdoor spaces, such as terraces, balconies or small courtyards, are treated as precious extensions of the home, carefully framed to amplify the sense of openness and connection with the outside.
Working in historic European buildings involves constraints: protection constraints, structural restrictions, non-modifiable elements. Yet, it is precisely within these limits that ARRCC finds fertile ground for respectful creativity, capable of blending past and present in an elegant and authentic way.
This project in Barcelona represents a model of contemporary residential design with historical roots, where every choice – from the arrangement to the material – is designed to create a refined balance between memory and innovation.

INFO/PHOTO COURTESY: Tenille Peckham - PR Manager
63871,63873,63875,63877
["GET
