The Laboratory building is<br \/>\ndesigned to take on an Iconic position in the refinery complex, signifying the focus on research and<br \/>\nthe Future. The Center is intended to significantly improve on Building performance through the<br \/>\nsustainable and conservative use of energy and other resources.<br \/>\nConceived as a rock formation on a plain landscape, the form was conceived as a Building on a rock<br \/>\nplinth with a glass lined central courtyard, returns the ground and the whole ensemble to the<br \/>\nlandscape. The Double height inclined Glass facade generates interest in the outside from all parts of<br \/>\nthe building connecting the occupants to nature.<br \/>\nThe diagonal building parasol roof form orientation responds to allow self-shading from South and<br \/>\nWest, with larger surfaces on the benign directions of the North and East. It is visible uniquely as a<br \/>\npresence in the serence landscape as sight lines show the form \u0093in the round\u0094.The entrance is a glass<br \/>\ncube set amidst water channels atthe base of the building that also collect rainwater.<br \/>\nFORM CONCEPT- Landscape\/Nature-based rockformation on a plain landscape \/ NATURAL LIGHT\/<br \/>\nSOLAR FACADE \/ RAINWATER \/ roof angle to accept solar panels \/ VENTILATION<br \/>\nForm Space Relationships<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Open plan scientific work environments supported by views of the granite garden in the<br \/>\ncentral courtyard<br \/>\nThe experience vignettes from all interior laboratory spaces is designed for visual experience of the<br \/>\ngranite garden in the courtyard, placed centrally in the glass lined interior courtyard. The garden and<br \/>\nform can be experienced through all the glass-lined movement corridors and staircase cores. The<br \/>\nidea of diverse experience- of graded light and shaded spaces, landscape variations tare made at<br \/>\neach pause and transition experience. The courtyard serves to relieve the bulk of the form and<br \/>\nsupply natural light to the floor plates inside.<br \/>\nThe complexVisual interconnections and interpenetrations of interiorspaces are made through glass<br \/>\ncourtyards, corridors, and lobbies, togetherwith the interplay of light and choices of just a few<br \/>\nmaterial finishes.
