Re_ed is a project realised for the Sawmill Jagodno. The company is located on the Vistula Bay – a beautiful aquen, rich in see wildlife, especially in reed. The main task was to create an ecological product from the company resources. The sawmill acquires a softwood for various needs, but also a reed. It is a natural material and it perfect coegsists with the landscape. That is why it has a large group of supporters in Poland and throughout Europe. The company sells every year about 100,000 bundles of reed with a diameter 60cm. Together with the Sawmill Jagodno we decided to use in the project resources on-site, which emphasise the identity and context of the product. More and more of society expect from producers a responsibility, that they will be taking care for our common goods, for our resources and will use them In rational way. Secondly, the client expect form the product to say something more than “made in China”, expect a “built in” information about the origin.
The innovation is the use of reed stalks as a construction material - the reed replaced legs of the Re_ed seat. The reed molded in nailed element is very durable, it is not decaying under the influence of the damp, and is fire resistant. Additionally we used sawdust as a filler of cement. We decided on this step from several reasons, the main argument was weight, we saved on 1 seat from 3 to 4 kg. And thanks to the fact that the project arises in the sawmill, sawdust is a natural waste material, which is always plenty in abundance. We made many tests of the composition of concrete blend, the proportions of components, the abrasibility, so that the future product could be lightest and at the same time durable enough to survive in our weather conditions, as well as possess the ability to biodegradation.
The project was mainly designed for people who appreciate the ecology, awared of the impact that we have on the environment. The project is addressed to companies and state institutions stand up on uniqueness, managing in a rational way places of the public utility. The product may become a remarkable addition for places that want to “talk “ about their origin, e.g. in a seaside restaurant or a guiet hotel on a lake district.
