Inauguration of the work of #digitalstreetart for the project “At the center there is you”
With an artistic work full of light, a pointer with a heart inside, in a dynamic way, every day the various projects of the campus will be told with the contribution of young people.
In fact, using his iconic language that recovers traditional illuminations by developing them as a distinctive sign, the artist Domenico Pellegrino has created a large work of light that has been placed on the façade of the campus building overlooking the folding streets of Via Piersanti Mattarella.
It is a new landmark that will light up every evening and which, visible even during the day, will bring back the multimedia content created by the boys and girls of the Gonzaga Campus.
One hundred years after its foundation, the Gonzaga Campus, faithful to the educational project of the Society of Jesus, also renews in this way all its strength and creative vitality. The Sicilian Domenico Pellegrino, called “the artist of light”, is enhancing the spaces of the Gonzaga Campus community, presenting the first of the three external works of the project “At the center there is you”. The new logo that brings together the three realities of the campus is therefore consolidated: the School, the International School Palermo and the Polisportiva.
The work, made of aluminum and illuminations, hand-painted with the typical decorations of Pellegrino’s artistic work, will be enriched with a new and innovative material: the digital mosaic. The digital mosaic is made of bioresin, 100% biodegradable in its vegetable component. The tiles of the digital mosaic will allow smartphones in the vicinity to enjoy multimedia content and reality.
The project started with the establishment of a creative hub, which involved in a first phase the students of the design club with whom the artist has worked in recent months.
From September 2021, the project will involve more and more students, maintaining the goal to be achieved: the regeneration of public space, which activates not only places of sociality, but encourages the birth of new thoughts, which are based on traditional Ignatian teachings, revitalizing the community.
“With this work – explains Fr. Vitangelo Denora, director of the Gonzaga Campus – we want to summarize the values of our campus in a single expression and image. The project, in fact, ‘At the center there is you’, is linked to our pedagogy where personal care is really the most important and significant aspect of our educational projects. The center also indicates the intersection of different growth opportunities that we offer to young people. The center also indicates a place from which a broader innovative proposal for our Sicilian land but also for a greater dream involving the Mediterranean starts. We thus intended to give shape to our mission approved on the occasion of the centenary of Gonzaga. Through the help of our graphic designers and, involving our students, the idea of a pointer with a heart inside was born to tell what we do”.
