In the beating heart of Abidjan, in the Plateau area overlooking the Ébrié lagoon, stands the new Noom Hotel Abidjan Plateau, an architectural work designed by the international studio SAOTA, which blends African modernism and contemporary design. With its 22 floors, this luxury hotel redefines the horizon of the economic capital of the Ivory Coast, projecting the city into a new era of high-end hospitality.
Abidjan, nicknamed the Paris of West Africa, has been fertile ground for experimental architecture for decades. The Noom Hotel fits coherently into the country’s post-independence modernist tradition, reinterpreting it with materials, forms and functions in line with the needs of the present. The project, commissioned by the Teyliom Hospitality Group, aims to position Abidjan among the global destinations for international business tourism and lifestyle.
The hotel comprises 179 rooms and was built on a compact but strategic urban site, in the densest and most dynamic district of the city. The main challenge faced by SAOTA was to preserve the spatial openness and the link with the landscape typical of Noom resorts, translating them into a vertical format. The design solution includes an entire area dedicated to socialising on the 7th floor, with a panoramic terrace, swimming pool and restaurants suspended above the city, overlooking the lagoon.
Architectural design constantly dialogues between local and global. The façade is characterized by an asymmetrical play of openings, light coverings and textures inspired by Ivorian craftsmanship: ceramics, textiles and traditional workmanship. These elements, integrated into a modern architectural language, recall the rational and clean forms of twentieth-century modernism, creating a harmonious synthesis between cultural identity and innovation.
From a technical point of view, the building is clad with a rain-screen aluminium system and thermally insulated to adapt to the tropical climate, reducing heat absorption and improving energy efficiency. On the ground floor, an impressive triple-height atrium welcomes guests, introducing guests to the hotel’s multifunctional spaces, including conference rooms, entertainment areas, and lobby lounges.
The Noom Hotel Abidjan Plateau is more than an accommodation facility: it is a symbol of African urban rebirth, a reference point for sustainable and luxury architecture in the sub-Saharan region. The images created by SAOTA capture light, volumes and surfaces with a precision that conveys the expressive power of the project.
In an Africa that is increasingly a protagonist on the international scene, the Noom Hotel represents a step forward in the definition of a contemporary African aesthetic, capable of competing on the global stage without losing contact with its roots.
