Web-Silk Wallpaper, 2013, Designed by Jane Briggs & Christy Cole. The design incorporates multilayered patterns adopted from an original spiders web pattern from an archival japanese leaf paper. The main allure of the design is the unequivocal exuberance of hand painted gold leaf with warm textured metallic tones. The pattern is irregular, dealing with the act of tracing and the dubiety of transference which you get with non digital processes/techniques. The design simultaneously suggests the overlaid urban grid with organic order, both possessing the ability to expand infinitely. The ‘repeat’ aspect within the design aligns itself to new possibilities of pattern in terms of scale, intricacy and visual texture.
