On the occasion of MiArt and Milan Design Week 2025, Palazzo Regione Lombardia hosts the exhibition “Art and Design, Creativity to Power”, curated by Willy Montini, as part of the “Oasi Life Experience” initiative promoted by the Lombardy Region. An important event, which celebrates the dialogue between art and design through the works of over fifty Italian and international artists and designers, in an exhibition itinerary that crosses generations, languages and visions.
Set up in the spaces of IsolaSet, in the evocative Piazza Città di Lombardia, the exhibition brings together the most important names on the historical and contemporary scene. From the masters of Futurism such as Giacomo Balla and Fortunato Depero, to the protagonists of Italian design such as Munari, Sottsass, Mari, Castiglioni, Scarpa, Mendini, Pesce, up to more recent authors such as Helidon Xhixha, Ugo La Pietra, Izumi Oki and Daniele Basso, among the most interesting interpreters of the relationship between form, matter and meaning in contemporary sculpture.
Daniele Basso is present in the exhibition with two emblematic works: “VLINT 140” (preview) and “TROTTLE”, two sculptures that reflect his poetics made up of reflection on balance, human ingenuity and the constant tension between movement and stability. “VLINT 140” is a tribute to the primordial creativity of man, to his innate ability to give shape to thought through objects. “TROTTLE”, on the other hand, is configured as a metaphor for life itself: balance not as a static condition, but as the result of continuous dynamism.
In a context where art and design meet, often overcoming the traditional boundaries of disciplines, Basso’s works fit in with coherence and expressive force. “It is a great honor to be present with my work at this event,” said the artist, “an exhibition on the razor’s edge between two bordering and bordering worlds, which I have been living with passion for many years.” A thought that well describes the conceptual synthesis between aesthetics and function that characterizes Basso’s career, and that ideally links him to the great masters present in the exhibition.
His participation was made possible thanks to the sensitivity of curator Adriana Lohmann, the vision of Willy Montini and the support of Stefano Orler, confirming once again the value of Basso’s work in the contemporary art scene.
“Art and Design, Creativity to Power” is thus one of the most significant exhibitions in the Milanese cultural calendar, capable of bringing different languages and visions into dialogue, and offering a lucid and engaging look at the relationship between art, design and society.
