Although prefabricated wooden houses enjoy numerous benefits, thanks to the various properties offered by wood, it is possible that, due to the extreme heat, in summer you will also suffer a little heat in the bungalow located in your garden.
In this article, we will give you ideas on how to keep your wooden home cool – especially if it is not insulated – so that you can spend a cool and relaxing summer inside.
Once you have read this article, all you have to do is choose the method with which to cool your home and spend long days protected from the summer heat. Are you ready to take notes and fill your cart?
The methods by which to cool prefabricated houses in summer
Wooden garden houses can suffer from the heat in summer, especially if not properly insulated, as holes or cracks could cause the cool inside the house to escape and, vice versa, the internal heat to heat the rooms.
However, in the summer heat, it’s hard to do anything: work, think, and even relax.
It is possible to find a remedy to this problem without having to carry out major work, such as a coat or the application of thermal insulation material from inside the structure, by opting for the installation of smart and cooling systems, including:
-Air conditioner
– Controlled mechanical ventilation system,
-Fan.
In the next few lines of this article we will describe each of these systems in detail, in order to stem the problem and make you enjoy the summer to the fullest!
Keep in mind that the tools we’ll describe below are ideal for log cabins of any kind.
Air conditioning
An air conditioner is nothing more than an excellent remedy to counteract heat (and cold, in the event that the air conditioner also has the “inverter” functionality), as well as a thermal machine capable of lowering the temperature of an indoor environment (for example a room) or, more generally, an entire house.
In order to cool the rooms, the air conditioner develops sensible heat (positive or negative) through which heat is transferred with a fluid, which, once put into circulation, releases this heat to a room.
The air conditioner is the most efficient tool for cooling a room, as it is able to reduce the internal temperature in a short time. The latest air conditioners can be integrated into a smart system, which makes them perfect for those who want to manage the machine remotely (for example: if you spend a lot of time away from home and, when you return, you want the rooms to be cool, you can turn on the machine directly from your smartphone).
In addition, similar to the mechanical ventilation system, it is possible to adjust the temperature, the power with which the machine will emit air, set an on/off timer, set the mode, etc.
Keep in mind that by setting the air conditioner in “quiet” mode you can cool your home at a low cost and without the airflow emitted by the machine overwhelming you.
The controlled mechanical ventilation system
A controlled mechanical ventilation system is a solution that can promote air recirculation and increase living comfort inside prefabricated wooden houses.
This system has a very simple and intelligent operation: a system takes hot air from outside (or cold air in winter), filters it in order to eliminate “impurities” (pollen, allergen, dust and pollution), and then introduces it inside the structure.
The advantage of this system, compared to other systems capable of cooling prefabricated houses – such as an air conditioner – is that it is able to promote air circulation with a gentle and imperceptible movement for the human being (both in terms of perception on the body and in terms of noise).
The choice to opt for a controlled mechanical ventilation system for prefabricated houses is a good investment, which will bring great advantages, increase the value of the structure and allow you to have unparalleled living comfort.
The fan
The fan is a device that you will surely know; It is a rotating fan that rotates thanks to a motor, with the aim of moving the air.
This tool is perfect for having some refreshment in a room very quickly; In fact, this instrument by moving the surrounding air towards a body – such as a person – increases the speed of evaporation of sweat, thus lowering body temperature (thanks to the subtraction of the latent heat associated with the evaporation of sweat).
If you want to spend little, but still have a benefit in terms of temperature, the fan is an excellent choice, even if it is not as effective as other tools (see the air conditioner or mechanical ventilation system).
In the market it is possible to find fans starting from € 20, whether they are powered by electricity or USB. The latter can be transported anywhere, even inside a building without a power outlet or generator, as they also work via a power bank, battery or electronic device.
The Ultimate Solution
To improve the energy efficiency of prefabricated wooden houses (consequently increasing the class of the house) it is advisable to carry out insulation or thermal insulation work.
It is possible to carry out work of this type even if it was not done during the construction phase: it will not be possible to proceed with the insulation from the outside, but it will be possible to intervene from the inside. Clearly, the comfort offered by an insulation installed from the inside will not be the same as a house of the same size, position and structure, with an insulation installed from the outside, but it will certainly improve living well-being.
We do not guarantee that the application of a thermal insulation – such as cork, polystyrene, aerogel, polystyrene, glass or rock wool – offers immediate cooling inside the rooms, as could happen with a controlled mechanical ventilation system or an air conditioner, but we do assure that it is a valid investment that can significantly reduce the cost of air conditioning and heating bills.
We also recommend checking that the structure does not have holes or cracks, as otherwise any cooling system would be in vain. If you notice any cracks or holes, proceed with the sealing with a sealant or wood filler.
