URBANJOBS presents Scalla: a luxury restaurant inspired by the Mediterranean in the heart of Istanbul

A sculptural and sensory project that redefines spatial boundaries through materials, light and architectural fluidity

Multidisciplinary design studio URBANJOBS recently unveiled Scalla, a Mediterranean-inspired luxury restaurant located in Istanbul’s historic Beykoz district. With a capacity of 120 seats, Scalla is much more than a place to eat: it is an immersive experience where architecture and interior design come together in a fluid and refined sensory journey. The name, derived from the Italian “staircase”, recalls the philosophy of evolving perspectives, in which form, function and matter are harmoniously intertwined.
The central element of the project is the Glass Curtain, a curved architectural structure inspired by the sinuous lines of the Mediterranean coast. This system breaks traditional spatial boundaries, creating an architectural fluidity that translates into a living, dynamic environment open to discovery. Made with custom-made curved copper-plated aluminum profiles, the structure represents a real construction innovation, both from a technical and aesthetic point of view.
The central bar plays a dual role: a visual reference point and a social magnet, encouraging orientation and dialogue between guests. The interaction with the space is studied in detail, from the initial view of the bar and kitchen, to the service area and back, in a succession of memorable architectural sequences.

The ceiling, conceived as a unifying surface, varies in height and finish to meet different spatial needs. Woven leather inserts, exposed beams and more intimate areas evoke domestic atmospheres. The lighting design accompanies the transition from day to night, with integrated lights, custom-made wall lights and table lamps that create a theatrical scenography.
The use of natural materials such as wood, leather, light marble and copper-plated metals gives warmth and visual coherence. The color palette recalls Mediterranean vegetation, with sand, beige, copper tones and blue details, in a perfect balance between land and sea. All the furnishings and finishes have been custom-designed by URBANJOBS: from the blue marble-effect cabinets with hardware by Turnstyle Designs, to the chairs by Dedar and Ralph Lauren, up to the tactile wall coverings by ARTE and Phillip Jeffries.
The outdoor space is enhanced by a curved pergola and a botanical scenography curated by Yunus Karma, which creates a welcoming microclimate that is well integrated with the natural context. Even on the outside, the repetition of curvilinear elements and materials reinforces the visual identity of the project.
Scalla is not just a restaurant: it is a spatial narrative
, where every detail – from light to material – contributes to building an intimate and sophisticated experience. With this project, URBANJOBS once again demonstrates its vision: to create living, emotional and memorable spaces, capable of engaging the senses and the soul.
