Nestled in the unspoiled landscape of Napa Valley, Amnesia House represents a perfect balance between nature, innovation and sustainable architecture. Designed by Edmonds + Lee Architects in collaboration with Garde Hvalsøe, this single-family residence redefines the concept of contemporary living, focusing on safety, comfort and integration with the environment.
Built on a plot of over 19 acres, the house was born as a refuge away from urban life, designed to offer an immersive experience in nature. The project stands out for its approach to contemporary architectural design, characterized by horizontal lines, simple volumes and a strong visual connection with the surrounding landscape. The large openings and glass surfaces allow continuity between inside and outside, enhancing natural light and panoramic views.
One of the key elements of Amnesia House is its ability to respond to environmental challenges, particularly the risk of fires. The building is in fact an advanced example of fire-resistant architecture, thanks to the use of non-combustible materials such as steel and design solutions that reduce the vulnerability of the structure. This approach not only ensures greater safety, but also represents an ethical choice in the context of sustainable design.
The interiors reflect a philosophy of essentiality and quality, typical of Scandinavian design. Garde Hvalsøe has taken care of every detail through craftsmanship in oak wood, creating custom-made furnishings that integrate harmoniously with the architecture. The custom-designed kitchen and the furnishings contribute to defining a coherent and refined space, an expression of authentic luxury interior design.
The color palette is deliberately understated, with neutral tones and natural materials that amplify the light and promote a feeling of calm. The concrete floors with a terrazzo finish create visual continuity between the rooms, while the layout of the spaces guarantees acoustic comfort and functionality. This approach highlights the importance of minimalist design in creating contemporary environments.
From a design point of view, great attention has been paid to the context. The house has been strategically positioned to preserve the morphology of the land and minimize the environmental impact, demonstrating a conscious approach to eco-sustainable design. Every choice, from the location to the selection of materials, reflects a deep connection with the place.
In addition, the project stands out for the use of customized furnishings and design works that enrich the spaces, helping to create a unique identity. The integration between architecture and interior design is an example of integrated design, where each element dialogues with the whole.
Amnesia House represents a new frontier of living, where aesthetics, sustainability and safety coexist in perfect harmony. A project that demonstrates how contemporary architecture can respond to environmental challenges without sacrificing comfort and elegance.
