Blackout curtains: how to choose them and useful information

Curtains that allow you to block the entry of the sun's rays, made of different types of fabrics, with insulating and reflective properties

Blackout curtains are curtains that allow you to block the entry of the sun’s rays into a room, and consequently also the heat. For this reason, they are used in homes (especially in particularly sunny environments, for example characterized by large windows) but also in offices. They can be made of many types of fabric, with insulating and reflective properties.

Types of blackout curtains
On the market it is possible to find many types of blackout curtains. The simplest are the classic fabric ones, which hang above the window. Compared to curtains that do not have a blackout function, they are made with thicker materials and dark colors, with special finishes. Then there are roller blackout blinds, which can be operated manually or by means of technological devices. In fact, they wrap around themselves when they are not in use. Compared to the first type, they could be more functional, however it is not always possible to mount them, since masonry work is required to position them in correspondence with the fixtures. Finally, we can mention the blackout blinds for glass interiors which, unlike the previous ones, are installed without drilling holes in the wall. The latter, in fact, are positioned in a few minutes directly on the glass of the window or French door, so for some they can have several advantages. Firstly, they are particularly safe because there are no wires or ropes that allow them to operate, they also do not get stuck and do not have noise problems, because they do not have a motor.

Why install a blackout curtain?
There are several reasons why you may need to use blackout curtains. The first reason is for energy savings: indoor blackout blinds block heat by insulating the building and contributing to a more comfortable climate. This allows you to reduce the use of air conditioning to cool the room, and therefore translates into savings on the bill. Another reason why blackout curtains should be considered is to make an environment perfectly dark, for example conference rooms where slides have to be projected or cinema screening rooms built in hotels or other buildings. Again, blackout curtains protect people from prying eyes, so they are particularly useful in bedrooms, especially those located on the ground floor. Finally, by choosing blackout curtains with a minimal design, it is also possible to furnish the environment with simplicity.

Ecobonus for blackout curtains
For some types of blackout blinds, such as those that are installed directly on the glass, you can take advantage of the ecobonus (i.e. a deduction equal to 50% of the expense), up to a maximum of 60,000 euros. However, it is necessary that such blinds or sun screens meet certain requirements. First of all, they must be applied firmly to the building envelope, and this means that blinds that can be freely assembled or dismantled by the user are not included in the bonus. They must also be positioned inside or outside a glass surface. The expenses for which the tax deduction is provided do not only concern the purchase of the tent, but also the labor of the employee, including the decommissioning of existing mechanisms, as well as related professional services.
